Just two months after federal safety investigators launched an investigation into nearly 200 consumer stalling complaints, Chrysler has notified federal safety officials that it is recalling some 81,000 Dodge and Jeep vehicles. Apparently a computer can “interrupt” the power to the engine and the dash instrument cluster (that’s a polite way of saying it tells the vehicle to shut off the engine). Chrysler says that as long as your vehicle is moving when it happens, the vehicle will restart itself.

Yeah, that’s real comforting. That’s like saying, “it isn’t supposed to shut off but don’t worry because it’s supposed to turn back on.” Whatever happened to cars that just ran right in the first place?

If you’ve got a dangerous lemon, don’t go it alone! The “D” in Dodge should not stand for dangerous. The “J” in Jeep should not be the first letter of the first word you say when it happens, either. And the “C” in Chrysler should not mean cheap engineering either.

This isn’t the first recall for the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro either. Almost 51,000 2007 Jeep Wranger and Dodge Nitro vehicles were recalled in December 2006 when it was discovered that the braking system computer could tell the brakes to lock up and lead to a crash. On top of that there have been at least ten factory service bulletins that Chrysler has sent to its dealers, telling them how to fix defects that have been discovered since the model starting production.

In 2004 Jeep was sending out an average of at least one service bulletin a week to its dealers, on how to fix known problems.

These bulletins are sometimes called secret warranties in the business. If you own a Dodge or Jeep, don’t let them keep it a secret from you! We can help protect you from Chrysler’s lemons. Call us at 1-888-331-6422 or email us today for a Free Case Review!
