Jeep Recalls Over 100,000 Grand
Cherokees Because of Fire Dangers
Chrysler
has recalled nearly 102,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees from the
2005 model year because of a problem that may cause fires
to erupt under the hood, according to federal safety regulators.
That’s almost half of all the 2005 Grand Cherokee vehicles
built.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said
the fire risk comes from the model’s higher than normal
transmission temperature and the danger that the fluid may
spew into the engine compartment and catch fire.
According to the federal safety regulators, a total of 101,925
Grand Cherokees, equipped with 3.7-liter engines and the “NAG1" automatic
transmissions are affected by the recall.
Associated Press reported the safety defect actually was
caused by water contamination of the transmission fluid which
could cause the transmission to shake, which could lead to
a higher transmission temperature, causing the liquid to
boil and spew into the engine area where it could ignite.
Either way, if it happens to you, you have a problem. Plain
and simple: if your can erupt into flames because of the
way it was built, you may have a lemon car.
Other defects may also exist in the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
If you’ve got a lemon Jeep or other SUV lemon, you
