- 2007 Pontiac G6 (ending serial numbers from 74102732 to

General Motors has admitted to federal safety investigators
that the passenger side air bag system may be defective in
some 2007 Pontiac G6 cars. That resulted in a recall.

These cars are built with a right front passenger seat air
bag system that includes a passenger sensing system intended
to tell the airbag system when the passenger is a small child,
so the air bag will not go off and blow up in the face of
a child with too much energy or force. GM vaguely says some
sort of “interference” in calibrating the system “can
cause it to fail” in papers filed with federal safety
investigators.
GM is telling owners that when a small child is in the front
passenger seat, the driver should check the airbag indicator
to see if the passenger side airbag is on or off. If it is
not correct for the size of the passenger, GM says the passenger
should be moved to a different seat. Under the recall, GM
says it is going to replace a seat module kit to fix the
problem.
