Mazda5 Recalled for Fires With
Unknown Cause

Mazda owners are a loyal bunch, but buying a brand new minivan
that gets recalled within a matter of months — and
for a deadly defect with no known cause and no repair date

On 092305 Automotive News reported that Mazda Motor Corp.
shut down production of the new 2006 Mazda5 minivan and recalled
all the vehicles sold in North America for exhaust system-related
fires, telling dealers to park them and not to sell any new
vehicles until the cause of the fires has been found and
a repair plan put in place. Other defects in the Mazda vehicle
may exist.
With no known fix date, Mazda will likely soon run afoul
of most state Lemon Laws, including the Ohio Lemon Law, which
defines a “lemon” as a vehicle that has been
out of service for more than 30 days. On day 31, the Ohio
owner is entitled to their choice of either their money back
or a replacement of their choice.

If you’ve got a dangerous 2006 Mazda 5, don’t
go it alone!
The new model just went on sale in June and Mazda is already
telling owners to return the vehicles to their dealer and
leave them there. Owners are told to expect to be without
the vehicle for at least a month.
Curiously, the model is still being sold in Europe and Japan,
although as of the recall date Mazda admitted it did not
know the cause of the fire problem.
